Artist Bio
Laura Davis Shainker
My contemporary landscapes explore the abstract nature of the patterns and shapes of open spaces. Working from photographs, field notes, and memory, I strive to create a sense of balance and serenity through a simplified composition and harmonious palette. Marshes, mountains, farmlands, water, and florals are favorite subjects as well as architecture, and its relationship to the environment. My paintings are inspired by locations near to my heart including the South, the lowcountry and the French countryside.
While spending most of my life in Atlanta, I have also lived in Los Angeles and England. I attended the University of Georgia and began a career in business. On the side, I began pursuing my interest in art, studying the classical principles of drawing and painting with several artists while raising 3 children. With forays into teaching and owning the Art School of Sandy Springs, where I offered workshops with nationally known artists, I continued painting on the side. In 2019, I began painting full time.
